Howdy!

In 2005, a burnt-out ag biotech entrepreneur and a renegade Australian fisheries expert joined together to found Wild Type Ranch, outside of Austin, TX. With the foundational principle of “respect for all life”, we began to produce grass-fed beef using methods that optimized:

  • Welfare of all beings (livestock, wildlife, human, plant)

  • Soil health and environmental stewardship

  • Product quality and customer satisfaction

The passing years have seen changes in our operation and our family, but our commitment remains unchanged. As we experience the effects of changing climate, and watch the degradation of soils, water, biodiversity, and the nutritional content of our food, all exacerbated by many conventional ag practices, we feel an urgency to practice and promote regenerative agriculture.

This blog was started as a place to record the next phase of our journey. In 2024, we decided to expand our production systems and help next-generation farmers get started on their regenerative journey. Here, we will compile resources and share what we learn as we venture into new territory of products, methods and geography.

Whether you are a customer, a fellow producer or just curious about how agriculture can (and should be) part of the healing of our land, our bodies and our spirits, please come along as we learn and grow!
